Woah, who is that? I've gotten so accustomed to wearing my hair up every day that I now think I look like a completely different person with it down! However, since I'm planning to get it cut soon (yes, still a lot of planning, not a lot of doing) I am trying to get used to wearing it loose a bit more. I'm still pretty self-conscious letting it just 'do it's thing' uncontrolled ('what is it doing? does it look weird? what's going on up there?'), but I did manage to make it the whole day without breaking out the emergency hair elastic I kept in my pocket.

This was one of my favorite go-to outfits during my last year of grad school, particularly through fall and winter with tights and boots, and this summer version worked well for our first day exploring our new (and last!) temporary home - Stockholm! Our new apartment is right on the water (an accomplishment not at all cheapened by the fact that everyone's home here is right on the water), so I couldn't help but pay tribute to our surroundings with a very nautically-inspired outfit. We packed up my tote bag with lots of snacks (granola bars, apples, Coke Light & kettle chips - we're at least half-healthy!) and walked all the way from our place on Nacka through Södermalm and all over Gamla Stan and Riddarholmen... and all the way back! At this point I think my right foot is about ready to quit my leg entirely - hopefully I can find a local craftsman to carve me a replacement.

oh my goodness! i love your hair like this!!! You look stunning! But i can't believe your trip is coming to an end - that must feel so weird. I bet all this nomadism (is that a word?) has started to feel second nature now. On a positive note, Tania and i want to hang out with you stat, k?

Haha, all day I just kept fidgeting with it and asking Chris if I looked weird! I just have to get used to it - and get a proper cut, the ends are pretty snarly right now.
It is definitely going to be weird to go home! Fortunately we'll get a little bit of a soft transition - we'll start with familiar places, but still live out of our suitcases for at least a month or so. And I am SO excited to see you guys!!

I thought you looked different too! I think you should go chin length with the do. You could definitely pull it off and you won't need your emergency hairband! I love having a short cut.

Your hair looks great! I love the switch-up, but I think I love the outfit more. Stripes+belt+army jacket=perfect outfit. I may or may not be shopping online for an army jacket now.

You do look different with your hair down, but I absolutely love it! This outfit works so well, I wish I had the pieces to pull it off. :)

*.* ohhh I think you look so pretty with your hair down. there was a time when I would always wear my hair in a pony tail too; and I was so used to it, that it was really weird for me to have my hair down. Now I´ve gotten so used to it, that it´s actually the other way around.
I hope you guys enjoy your last temporary home. It must of been amazing, seeing all those different places and cities.

Your hair looks really beautiful worn down like that!  I love all of your Pinned looks, too - I think a bob would be very fitting for you!

good luck with the ongoing hair decision!   and it's crazy that you're on your last stop already!

p.s. nautical definitely for the win here.

My first thought after seeing your pictures was "she looks like a totally different person!" We're complete opposites; I feel so strange with my hair up and usually leave it down. And by usually, I mean always! I may be brave and try the sock bun soon though!
I think your hair is beautiful both down and up. I've been following on pinterest and think Heidi Klum's hair would look so pretty on you!
Love the nautical theme today!

Sweden! I am so jealous. I have been teaching myself Swedish.. very, very slowly. And your hair looks very well down, at least as good as it does up!

Welcome to my hometown! For drinks and good music, come to Debaser Slussen (it will probably be half empty since half of Stockholm is in Gothenburg for a music festival.  I second that that you should wear your hair down more often!

You look so pretty! Your bangs look more awesome with your hair down, or maybe it is just because I'm not used to it. Either way they are awesome and it makes me want to cut mine...

Your hair looks super cute just as it is! When I saw the first photo I thought, "Woah, did she do something different to her hair?? It looks amazing!" So don't be afraid to let your hair down every now and again :)

First of, I am a huge fan of anything sailor so naturally love the outfit. As for your hair I think it looks beautiful down!

kathy said...

If that's what your hair does naturally when you wear it down, you need to wear it down EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

It looks fabulous.

EMILY. Your hair is utterly beautiful down and it suits you so well. Just wanted to say so. I always lurk, never post on blogs, but I gotta say, wowzers. Gorg.

I was just in Stockholm the past few days, unfortunately I couldn't get outside until yesterday since I was sick, but even if I had spotted you in Gamla Stan I probably wouldn't have recognized you with your hair down! Love it though! Don't worry!

I need a good jacket like this.  I have one I like but it is a weird shade of blue and I'm not sure dye will work on it.  So I'm still hunting for one.  HOpefully before fall gets in full swing!
